What is a Dental Bridge?

Dental bridges are a type of prosthetic that contains the required number of pontics (artificial teeth) in between two dental crowns. They are bonded over healthy pearly whites or implants that exist on either side of the wide space in your smile. They can be used to restore your mouth’s appearance and functionality simultaneously.

Typically, dental bridges are made from resilient ceramic that can be color-matched to natural teeth, so once they're bonded in place, no one can tell the difference.

Types of Dental Bridges

Did you know that there’s more than one type of dental bridge? Therefore, before you can be fitted with one, you must schedule a consultation with Dr. Vidya. She will examine your dental condition and recommend one of the following options, as outlined in further detail below:

Traditional Dental Bridge

A traditional bridge is ideal to replace one to three consecutively missing teeth. They require that you have healthy ones on either side of the gap in your grin to serve as an abutment for your restoration. If your teeth are too damaged or decayed, you may need to consider an implant bridge.

Implant Bridge

These combine the benefits of traditional dental bridges with implants. For this procedure, two titanium rods will be surgically placed directly into your jawbone to support your artificial teeth. It can take several months to recover, because the metal poles must fuse with your jawbone to provide a firm foundation.

The Benefits of Getting a Dental Bridge

There are several advantages to getting your dental bridge in Marlton, including:

  • Protect Your Teeth. Your remaining teeth are prone to shifting out of alignment to fill in empty spaces, which wears down your enamel unevenly. You’re more likely to develop cavities or gum disease as a result. These prosthetics can prevent such dental drifting.
  • Increase Your Confidence. Refurbishing your grin with a lifelike restoration can boost your self-esteem because you’ll look and feel like the best version of yourself.
  • Clearly Enunciate Words. A complete set of teeth is essential for forming certain words and sounds that are easily understood.
  • Improve Chewing Ability. You can enjoy a wholesome diet with a restored smile because it’s much easier to grind your food enough to be swallowed and digested.
